Incident Response

When a computer system becomes compromised, the clock starts ticking. Investigators race to answer critical questions; How did the attacker get in? Which systems are involved?  What were they looking for?  What did they find? FireEye HX Endpoint Security helps the university answer those questions quickly, getting departments back on track faster.

"FireEye HX" expedites investigations and helps the university get back to work faster following a compromise.

Security incidents are going to happen, and it simply takes too long to recover from them. To help the university recover as quickly as possible, the UISO has deployed FireEye HX. FireEye HX automates some time-consuming steps of incident response and helps with forensics investigations. FireEye HX is often used to detect malware and/or viruses that antivirus software has difficulty locating. Additionally, it allows the UISO to more efficiently perform deep analysis on the malware to determine how the system became infected and help prevent further spread.

What is FireEye HX?

FireEye HX is a tool that helps the University of South Carolina respond quickly to security compromises, keep advanced attackers from achieving their objective in your systems, and restore normal business operations as quickly as possible.

What does FireEye HX do?

FireEye HX dramatically lowers risk by decreasing response time after a breach and ensuring that every host compromised in an attack is found. Security teams can respond remotely to any host in their environment – in minutes rather than hours, reducing an attacker’s window of opportunity and accelerating the organization’s return to normal business operations.

Who should use FireEye HX?

The University of South Carolina uses FireEye HX to detect, contain, investigate, and resolve security incidents in a timely manner.  As such, users whose machine houses or processes sensitive data are required to be running the FireEye HX agent. FireEye HX is recommended for all machines.

How do I get FireEye HX?

Check with your local systems administrator or SA contact.  You may already be running FireEye HX.  If you are not, ask them to help you download and install the agent from software distribution.
