At Carolina, you'll meet faculty and staff who are committed to helping you learn. A common perception of large universities is that students are just a number. This is anything but true at Carolina. There are numerous resources designed to help students be academically and personally successful.

Interested in becoming a more effective learner? Stop by one of our Academic Centers of Excellence, where you'll receive extra help with your math homework or a paper that's due. Our Student Success Center provides Supplemental Instruction for historically difficult courses, houses our first year call center, and provides tutoring services. Our Magellan Scholar Program offers students the opportunity to research with one of our professors. The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs has helped hundreds of Carolina students win national fellowships and scholarships such as the Rhodes, Truman, Fulbright, and Goldwater over the past ten years. And, the Office of Student Disability Services provides service and support for students who have a documented disability.

Our University 101 Program has been consistently ranked as one of the top programs in the nation for its ability to connect first-year students to life at Carolina. More than 90 percent of new Gamecocks take this three-credit course during their first year, and all University 101 classes are geared for helping students become adjusted to the college environment.

Outside of the classroom, you'll find more resources to enhance your experience. Our Minority Assistance Peer Program helps our minority students adjust to life in college and provides extra mentoring each semester. The Career Center assists students in preparing for life after college, and our Living and Learning Communities house students of similar interests. The Pre-Professional Advising Office provides individual mentoring and guidance each semester for students who are interested in enrolling in a professional degree program such as law or medicine after graduation.

You'll find that with all its resources, the University of South Carolina is a surprisingly close-knit community. Our students are people, not numbers.
