The University of South Carolina offers students plenty of opportunities for recreation. Whether your interest is working out for a bit before class or competing in an intramural sports league, you'll be able to stay physically active. Plus, with our beautiful Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center, you'll have the advantage of working out in one of the nicest campus recreation centers in the country.
Carolina's intramural sports program is a good way to stay in shape. Students are able to compete in one of the following leagues:
Of course, it is hard to mention recreation or sports without discussing our varsity athletic program. Casual spectators become avid Gamecock fans the first time they see the Gamecock football team run onto the field to the tune of 2001: A Space Odyssey at Williams-Brice Stadium, one of the largest collegiate stadiums in the nation. Gamecock fans are some of the most loyal in the nation, and students are large contributors to the contagiously enthusiastic atmosphere at all of our athletic venues.
The University of South Carolina competes at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics. We are a Division I institution and a member of the Southeastern Conference. Scholarships are available to our student-athletes, but they are awarded at the discretion of our coaches. We encourage all prospective student-athletes to first discuss college options with their high-school coaches since there are numerous recruiting regulations. For a complete listing of the most updated recruiting regulations, please visit the recruiting section of our athletics Web site.
