UPDATING SAS LICENSE INFORMATION

(Changing the Expiration Date)

SAS 8.1 FOR WINDOWS, WINDOWS 98 AND WINDOWS NT

To update the SAS System, you need:

  • this handout
  • a diskette with the current SETINIT.SAS file

The SAS System is licensed on an annual basis.  In order to run SAS, current licensing information (also referred to as SETINIT) must be maintained.  The update diskette contains the new licensing information for your site in the file named SETINIT.SAS .

To update the SAS license, follow these steps:

    1. Insert the diskette with the SETINIT.SAS file in your drive.

    2. From the Windows 95/98 and NT style task bar select START and then PROGRAMS.  Select The SAS System and click on Udpdate SAS V8 Authorization Code which will invoke the Authorization Wizard.

    3. A dialog box will appear. It will contain the path to the configuration file for the installation you are updating.  Verify this is the correct location.  Use the Browse buttom and change the PATH in the box if necessary. Click Next

    4. You will also be asked to verify the locations of the SASROOT directory (where the CORE SAS software is located) and the SAS Folder directory.   Click Next in both cases.

    5. A box will appear asking you if the SETINIT has been provided to you on paper.  Answer NO.

    6. Finally, when asked to provide the directory of your new SETINIT file, enter:

A:\ NOTE: This example assumes the A drive
                                           is your diskette drive

    and click Next.
    7. The following message will be displayed:

Setinit information for the SAS System has been updated.     Click OK to Exit.

IMPORTANT: If you cannot find the Update SAS V8 Authorization Code Information icon, you can invoke the Authorization Wizard by running the SIUPDATE.EXE  If you took the default during installation, the file is located in the following subdirectory:

    C:\Program Files\SAS Institute\SAS\V8\CORE\SASINST\

However, you first have to copy the new SETINIT.SAS file to the same subdirectory.

If you need further assistance, please contact the SAS Representative (777-6865).
