The SAS System is licensed on an annual basis.  In order to run SAS, current licensing information (also referred to as SETINIT) must be maintained.  The update diskette contains the new licensing information for your site in the file named SETINIT.SSS .

To update the SAS license, follow these steps:

Method 1: Updating SAS SETINIT by Right clicking on SETINIT.SSS

Insert the diskette with the SETINIT.SSS file in your drive.

Using the My Computer or Windows Explorer utility application, locate the file SETIINIT.SSS on the diskette, and right click on the file.

Choose Apply authorization to SAS V8 from the resulting menu. SAS will be invoked in batch mode and the authorization information contained in the SETINIT.SSS file will be applied. A SETINIT.SSS.LOG file will be created in the same location as the SETINIT.SSS. You can check the log file for results of the authorizatioin update.

Method 2: Updating SAS SETINIT during Installation of the SAS System.

If the SETINIT.SSS file that is found on installation CD appears correct to SAS Setup program, the product authorization update is executed automatically during the installation process. If the SAS Setup program determines that the SETINIT.SSS is expired or invalid, SAS Setup allows you to specify a directory path containing a valid SETNIT.SSS. Insert the diskette with the valid SETINIT.SSS into the disk drive at that time, and use the Browse button to select the SETINIT.SSS file on the diskette drive (usually the a:\ drive.)
