This is an outstanding opportunity for USC friends all over South Carolina to get involved in the Bicentennial. Because our Bicentennial events and projects will take place throughout South Carolina, we are establishing a group of statewide Bicentennial Partners to be our contacts for these activities. We will correspond with these Partners to keep them informed of all plans and developments, and to seek their input and ideas for activities in their communities.

As a project of the Bicentennial Student Events Committee and the Division of Student and Alumni Services, the search is on for the six individuals who most embody the Carolinian Creed. The entire student body is asked to vote by November 17 for one individual for each of the six categories:

  • Art, Entertainment, Pop Culture and Sports
  • Business, Industry, Science, Technology and Medicine
  • Education, Literature and Media
  • Politics, Law, World Figures and Government
  • Religion
  • Alumni

The 69 nominees have been selected by Search for Six Committees. Once a favorite from each category has been selected, student organizations and academic departments will work together to bring these six individuals to campus. To see a list of nominees or vote, visit

Do you have an attic full of old letters to and from USC? Photographs from your glory days on campus? How about other memorabilia you just haven’t been able to throw away?

The Bicentennial Office is seeking copies of your old keepsakes from USC. We’re especially interested in any letters you, your parents, grandparents, friends and relatives may have written and received to and from USC. These items could be used in any number of upcoming Bicentennial projects and a special exhibit on student life at USC through the years.

Do you have a cherished piece of USC memorabilia from 2001 or a special memory of the bicentennial year? If so, you don't want to miss this opportunity to be a special part of Carolina history by participating in the Bicentennial Time Capsule. The capsule will hold a variety of objects and will be buried on the historic Horseshoe on Friday, December 7, 2001.
