Glenn Abernathy 1951–1986

An Alabama native and graduate of Birmingham-Southern College with a BS in 1942 and the University of Alabama with an MA in 1947 and Ph.D. in 1953, Abernathy came to the University of South Carolina in 1951 as an assistant professor of political science. He was the author of several books, including Civil Liberties Under the Constitution and The Right of Assembly and Association, both of which were reissued in a number of editions. He won the Russell Award for Creative Research in 1963 and taught at Carolina for a total of 35 years.
