Come Take Your Place in History
Student Ambassadors, who organized the time capsule project, collected hundreds of items from faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of the community. The 2001 memorabilia includes newspapers, books, photos, programs, CDs, a VCR, a computer, letters and athletic equipment. All of these items are protected by a galvanized steel time capsule, which is sealed inside a large PVC pipe. The capsule and pipe were crafted by USC Facilities. During the ceremony, which took place on a beautiful, warm December afternoon, several University representatives placed items from their departments in the time capsule, including President and Mrs. Palms, who wrote letters to their 2051 counterparts. Following the presentations, Facilities staff sealed the time capsule and lowered it into the ground in front of McKissick Museum. The time capsule project and ceremony provided a unique and meaningful opportunity to celebrate past, present and future during the bicentennial year.
