Internships and co-ops help you confirm your career interests, give you “hands-on” experience in a professional setting, help build your resume, reinforce what you’ve learned in class, and can often lead to full-time employment. So, which type of experience is right for you?

Internships
- Available to students of all majors and class levels
- Usually 1 semester long
- May be paid or voluntary
- May be for class credit depending on your academic department
- Available year-round, usually during the summer or part-time during the school year

Co-ops
- Available to students with at least 30 hours of USC coursework and a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Usually 2 - 3 semesters long
- Paid
- Not for academic credit, but it will be noted on your transcript
- Available in 2 formats--parallel and alternating
Parallel--while attending school, 20 hrs/week for 3 consecutive semesters.
Alternating--alternating between a semester of full-time school and a semester of full-time work (40 hrs/week). You must work at least 2 semesters, but you have the option of living and working in other parts of the country.
