There’s more than meets the eye Behind the scenes
on any given Saturday

Preparations for game day begin three days before kick off when eight crew members prepare the gridiron, spraying 75 gallons of paint to create the logo at midfield, letters in the end zones, and stripes for the yard lines and side lines.

On game day, 154 ticket takers electronically scan the tickets of the capacity crowd of 80,250 as volunteers prepare to sell the 148-page game programs; more than 40,000 are printed each season. Approximately 1,000 concession stand workers serve the masses, while fans in the luxury boxes and suites enjoy buffets stocked with more than 2,100 pieces of chicken, more than 160 trays of deviled eggs, nearly 1,100 rolls, and a smorgasbord of other goodies.

At 7 a.m. the following day, students from the University’s Naval ROTC unit join a crew of 150 who begin the six-hour task of cleaning the stadium. They gather enough trash to fill seven-and-a-half 40-cubic yard dumpsters.
