Center for Economic Excellence in Nanoelectronics

USC's Richard Webb is the first scientist recruited as part of the S.C. Research Centers of Economic Excellence. Joining Webb's team is Thomas Crawford, a recently appointed researcher from Seagate Technology in Pittsburgh and a leader in the hard-drive industry.

“The goal is to develop the fundamental understanding necessary to create the next technology revolution,” Crawford said.

“Rather than just scaling existing technology, we have to go after things that are radically different and find out where we can spawn a whole new nanoelectronics industry, preferably one we can have in South Carolina.”
