Introduction to Biostatistics
CLASS SESSION BEGINS: Thursday, August 22, 2013
General Information: This is a videostreaming course utilizing Adobe Connect, but students will be required to attend an orientation session via live chat on Adobe Connect on Monday, Aug. 26, 3 - 4 p.m. USC Columbia students will attend the orientation in Wardlaw College, Room 116; all other students will view the orientation via the Internet and may call in with questions during class. Adobe Connect URL will be posted in Blackboard by the instructor prior to the date of orientation. Students viewing the orientation at a later date and for the video streaming site, visit the Web site at video.sc.edu; scroll down to Arnold School of Public Health, click on Fall and BIOS 700 class link.
On-Campus Sessions/Orientation Information:
In addition to the orientation (see General Info above), students will be required to attend two live sessions at USC Columbia for examinations on Wednesdays: Oct. 9, 2 - 5 p.m. (midterm); and Dec.11 (final), 2 - 4:30 p.m. Both exam sessions will meet in the Carolina Coliseum, Room TBA.
Online Session Information:
Students may participate in nine optional Q&A sessions using Adobe Connect on Mondays: Sept. 9, 23 and 30; Oct. 7 and 21; Nov. 4 and 18; Dec. 2 and 9; 3 - 4 p.m. USC Columbia students may attend Q&A sessions in Wardlaw College, Room 116; all other students will view Q&A sessions via the Internet and may call in with questions during class. Adobe Connect URL will be posted in Blackboard by the instructor prior to the first Q&A session. High-speed Internet access is required for Adobe Connect.

Graduate Bulletin Course Description: Health-related statistical applications. Descriptive statistics, probability, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, regression, correlation, ANOVA. May not be used as part of a degree program in epidemiology or biostatistics.
