Re: Faculty Advisory Committee - 1999-2000 Annual Report

The Faculty Advisory Committee devoted most of its effort during the 1999-2000 academic year to completing its work on the revision of The Faculty Manual. The results of the committee’s work on editorial changes to the manual were approved by the university faculty in September 1999. The committee then took on the task of dealing with the many substantive changes that were necessary to bring some uniformity to the manual. This required a great deal of liaison with the other faculty and senate committees and with the administration. Particular attention was paid to those parts of The Faculty Manual that dealt with tenure and promotions and with the University Committee on Tenure and Promotions. These substantive changes, with relatively minor amendments, were approved by the university faculty at its April meeting.

The Faculty Advisory Committee wishes to thank the many people who contributed to making the revision of The Faculty Manual a reality. Without the help and advice of numerous faculty and staff members and the support of the provost and the people in his office, a difficult task might well have been an impossible one.

The committee also worked on and presented to the Faculty Senate a resolution calling for the removal of the Confederate flag from the Statehouse dome.

At its final meeting of the academic year, the committee recognized the many contributions of its outgoing members, Professor Margit Resch and Professor Gerasimos Augustinos, welcomed its new members, Professor Betty Glad and Professor Thorne Compton, and elected Professor Robert Wilcox as its chair for the coming year.
