COMMITTEE ON LIBRARIES
ANNUAL REPORT 1999-2000
Library Annex: The USC Library Annex and Conservation Facility opened in July of 1999 and began accessioning books immediately. The remote storage operation is carried out by two full time employees and three temporary employees who work twenty hours a week. At the end of the fiscal year 140,522 items had been added to remote storage. The staff did 1,190 retrievals for requested materials delivering items to the main library twice daily.
The Conservation Laboratory continued to add state-of-the-art equipment during the year while working on both special and general collections materials. An internship program introduced graduate students to the necessary skills for conservation bench work. Conservation treatments performed include dry cleaning, solubility testing, washing and paper buffering, resizing, fore-edge repair, and re-sewing.
