Committee on Scholastic Standards and Petitions Proposed Motion

At its meeting on November 11, 1997 the Committee on Scholastic Standards and Petitions took the following action and submits it to the Senate for approval:

Change in residence requirements under Graduation on page 24, Undergraduate Bulletin:

CURRENT

The last 30 semester hours must be

completed in residence at the University,

and at least 12 hours of the student's major

courses must be taken at the University.

Some programs impose greater student

residence and/or major requirements.

PROPOSED

The last 30 semester hours must be

completed in residence at the University,

and at least half of the hours in the student's

major courses and in the student's minor

courses (if applicable) must be taken at the

University. Some programs impose greater

student residence and/or major requirements.

This proposal has been discussed by the council of Associate and Assistant Deans and has the approval of Associate Provost Greiner. The current wording was established when the 24-hour major was typical, now many majors require more than 24 hours and the proposed wording will satisfy the intent of the rule without ambiguity.
