REPORT: COMMITTEE ON CURRICULA AND COURSES

The Committee requests that any department which has a proposal

               being recommended by the Committee on Curricula and Courses

                                            provide a spokesperson to attend the Faculty Senate meeting in which

  2. Change in prerequisites and description

       FROM:  MUSC 333      BASIC CHORAL AND INSTRUMENTAL

    CONDUCTING. (2) A course in organizing, conducting, and

                        maintaining choral and instrumental organizations. Elementary

                                            conducting technique. An elective course open to any student

                                            with a working knowledge of music.

     

       TO:        MUSC 333      BASIC CHORAL AND INSTRUMENTAL

                                            CONDUCTING. (2) [Prereq: MUSC 217]

                                            A course in organizing and conducting choral

                                            and instrumental ensembles in which basic

                                            conducting technique is acquired.

Department of Art

ARTE 520M ART FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. (3) Methods of

                     teaching art to elementary and preschool children. Major

                     emphasis will be give to relevant studio experiences.

ARTE 595M REPRESENTING NATURE. (1-3) Critical examination

                     of the social construction of nature through visual represent-

                     ation. Extended contact with wilderness areas through on-site

                     work in the Appalachian Mountains and in the Columbia area.

ARTH 561M MUSEOLOGY II. (3) Museum practices emphasizing the

                      conservation, installation, and interpretation of the object

                      in the context of an art museum. Practical experience

                      provided through the South Carolina State Museum.

ARTH 562M PUBLIC ART PRESERVED: NEW DEAL ART IN SOUTH

                     CAROLINA TODAY. (3) This course will offer an

                     historical overview of the art programs of the New Deal,

                     focusing on the mural work in South Carolina and supervised

                     conservation experience with a specific example plus field

                     observation/tour opportunities.
