'Tiger Tear Down' scheduled for Nov. 23

Tiger Tear Down will highlight Carolina-Clemson week as the University of South Carolina football team and its fans prepare for the annual season-ending battle for bragging rights.

Set in front of the Colonial Center at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, the day before the Gamecocks and Tigers square off at Williams-Brice Stadium, Tiger Tear Down this year replaces the annual Tiger Burn, which students elected to cancel in deference to the memory of the seven students – six from Carolina, one from Clemson – who perished in a house fire last month.

Tiger Tear Down will feature Cocky, the Cheerleaders, the Carolina Marching Band and the dismantling of a gigantic Tiger by tractors driven by "Clem" and his "son."

The event is free, and all students, faculty, staff, alumni and Gamecock fans are encouraged to attend. There will be hot beverages and barbecue samples available.

The 15-to-20-foot tiger has been designed and built by a team of students under the direction of professor of mechanical engineering Dr. Abdel Bayoumi.

"We Hail Thee Carolina"

We hail thee, Carolina, and sing thy high praise
With loyal devotion, remembering the days
When proudly we sought thee, thy children to be:
Here's a health, Carolina, forever to thee!
