Lemuel Watson

Lemuel Watson, University of South Carolina

Lemuel Watson is dean of the University of South Carolina's (USC) College of Education and is actively transforming new education models that exceed state and national expectations as well as professional standards through business and scholarly partnerships, community outreach, state and national board membership, and volunteer commitments. As a pioneer in the efforts to encourage systemic approaches to education (P-20 focus), he believes these collaborations are a conduit for productive dialogue that develop innovative strategies and approaches for teaching, research, and comprehension. At USC, he serves on two major search committees: the Executive Director for the Commission on Higher Education and the Chancellor of Palmetto College. Additionally, he spends time cultivating relationships with donors and alumni on a monthly basis and weaves in visits to schools in order to foster partnerships with educators throughout the state. By serving the community, state, and nation as an education professional, an authoritative speaker, an academic lecturer, and as a published author, Watson vanguards initiatives that make a difference. His many board memberships include The National Defense Board of Visitors, National Network for Educational Renewal (NNER), South Carolina Future Minds, The Council for Academic Deans from Research Education Institutions (CADREI), South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA), South Carolina Science Academy, National Associate of Student Affairs Professional (NASAP) Executive and Foundation Boards, National

Resource Center for The First Year Experience and Students in Transition, The Penn Center Advisory Board, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia, as well as Nickelodeon and Trustus Theatres. Watson is also honored at the national level to be CADREI's representative to the board of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE).
