The 19th Annual First-Year Reading Experience will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 in the Carolina Coliseum. During summer orientation, students are provided with a copy of the 2012 selection, Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem. The book includes a Reader’s Guide to aid students in identifying key themes of the text, as well as prepare students for small group discussions that will take place at the First-Year Reading Experience.
On the morning of the event, all first-year students will gather at the Carolina Coliseum at 8:30 am, and Dr. Helen Doerpinghaus, Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, will welcome everyone. We are excited to announce this year’s keynote speaker will be the author of Motherless Brooklyn, Jonathan Lethem. Following the keynote session, students will participate in small group discussions of the text.
