Services Offered
HSRC services include both pre- and post-award methodological and biostatistical work, and will be tailored to investigators’ needs.
- Major pre- and post-award consultation and collaboration on projects that require development of innovative methods will be handled through the Methodology and Biostatistics Collaborative Unit (BCU).
- Pre-award work through the BCU typically takes the form of consultation on design, measurement, and analysis issues with potential for development of innovative methods and involvement by BCU faculty as investigators on grants.
- Post-award work by the BCU is most often in the form of collaboration as investigators, consulting with other investigators on methodological and analytical issues, collaborating on manuscripts, and conducting original methodological research related to the analytical challenges posed by the project.
- Projects that do not require a sustained collaborative relationship or advanced statistical consulting are generally be handled by the Data Support Services Unit (DaSS).
- Examples of pre-award work provided by DaSS include assistance with development of research questions or hypotheses, study design, choice of statistical methods, sample size estimation, and writing the statistical sections of applications.
- Examples of post-award work offered by DaSS include data entry and management, data analysis and interpretation, and assistance in preparation of results for publication and presentation. DaSS also offers survey form design, scanning, and archiving services.
- Projects requiring access to existing data, requests to other agencies, or submission of data to be archived will be handled through the Data Portal and Repository (DaPR).
- The Data Portal and Repository (DaPR) will archive data from completed projects and maintain a library of public access data such as vital records and national health surveys from the National Center for Health Statistics.
- DaPR also assists researchers in accessing data from other sources such as the SC Central Cancer Registry, SC Data Warehouse, or other agencies, organizations and institutions.
- DaPR maintains a library of documentation for any data entrusted to it or obtained by it.
