PRE-MED HANDBOOK
Supporting Documents
Medical schools from which you receive secondary
applications will provide information regarding supporting
documents they require. Once a file is complete, most medical
schools send an acknowledgment to the student. The kind of
supporting documents required will vary somewhat from school to
school, but in all cases letters of evaluation are needed.
Pre-Professional Advising provides a credentials service through
which you can have evaluations compiled and sent to the medical
schools to which you apply. This process is explained in detail
in the section on the admissions process earlier in this manual.
You should send grade reports as
you receive them to all medical schools at which you are
applying. Most schools require only a photocopy of the grade
report. A final official copy of the transcript will be required
after acceptance, but before matriculation, that shows the degree
awarded.
Finally, some medical schools require a recent picture (passport
size) to accompany the application. In
the interest of economy and convenience, it is suggested that a
good picture be made during the winter quarter of your junior
year (preferably by a professional photographer) and that a good
supply be ordered in passport size (2"X2") so that they
will be available without a long wait or the extra expense of
having a rush order. Neat, conservative dress (coat and tie for
men and a tailored suit or dress for women) will make you appear
more mature and "professional." High school graduation
pictures or candid snapshots at the beach, etc., do not project
the kind of image needed to support an application to medical
school.
