Discovery Day Abstract Submission Form
Deadline for submission: Friday, March 7, 2008
Please submit your abstract using the form below. All fields are required!
This year you have four options to present your research: poster presentation, o
ral presentation, active arts or creative presentations, and visual or static
art display. You must choose one. The number of slots for oral presentations
and active arts are limited and will be competitively chosen. If you choose
one of these and space is not available for you, you will be given the option
of choosing another presentation format. More information including guidelines
for each format can be found at
http://www.sc.edu/our/discovery.shtml.
Abstract Specifications:
Your abstract must be approved by your mentor prior to submission. Abstracts received after the deadline may
be considered only if space allows but will not be published in the abstract book.
Your abstract may not exceed 250 words. If your abstract is too long, you will be
given one chance to revise - if you choose not to do this in the timeframe given,
it will be cut for you!
The abstract is a very brief overview of your ENTIRE study. It tells the reader
WHAT you did, WHY you did it, HOW you did it, WHAT you found, and WHAT it means.
The abstract should briefly state the purpose of the research (introduction),
how the problem was studied (methods), the principal findings (results), and
what the findings mean (discussion and conclusion). It is important to be
descriptive but concise--say only what is essential, using no more words than
necessary to convey meaning. For more help see links at
http://www.sc.edu/our/discovery.shtml.
