Poetry for the Community and The South Carolina Poetry Initiative announce The South Carolina Young Poets Prize for the best group of poems written by teens.

Submissions are taken from: January 1st thru April 1st


  • Fill out the entry form
  • Submit 3-5, original, unpublished poems and entry fee
  • The poet's name should not appear anywhere on the poems.
  • All poems must be typed.
  • Send a self addressed postcard for receipt only, and an entry fee of $5 payable to: University of South Carolina Educational Foundation
  • The South Carolina Young Poets Prize is open to all South Carolina residents aged 14-19.
  • All participants will be invited to attend the Gathering of South Carolina Young Poets at the Columbia Museum of Art on April 24th where winners will be announced at this gathering.
  • The top five selections will receive cash and prizes.
  • Of the top five selections, a grand prize winner will receive an additional cash prize.
  • Due to high volumes of submissions, we cannot accept electronic mail submissions; nor can we accept them on a disk.
  • Mail entry form, poems, entry fee, a cover sheet with your name, age, school you are attending (home school students state "home schooled") address, phone number, and email address to:
