I. Policy
The University owns, operates and maintains SYSTEM-85 private
branch exchanges at the Columbia, Spartanburg and Coastal
campuses and SYSTEM-75S on the Sumter, Aiken, Beaufort and
Salkehatchie campuses. Other area campuses are under leasing
arrangements with vendors who own and maintain similar equipment
there. With the exception of sets in dormitory rooms on
the Columbia campus, all equipment installed under the
supervision of AT&T and Communications is owned by the
University.
II. Procedure
A. Theft or Damage
1. Supervision of and protection against the theft
and/or damage of equipment is the sole
responsibility of the department utilizing the
equipment. Therefore, in the event of malicious
damage or theft, charges incurred for the
replacement of the affected equipment will
be paid in full by the department responsible for
such equipment.
2. Communications recommends that if equipment in
public areas is repeatedly stolen or damaged the
department supervising that equipment should have
it removed.
B. Auxiliary Equipment
1. Auxiliary equipment such as modems, answering
machines and personally owned telephone sets are
allowed for use with the SYSTEM-85 if they
meet the following guidelines:
a. be FCC registered;
b. be equipped with modular line cord and plugs;
c. require no external power (e.g., for lights);
d. have a ringer equivalence not greater than 1.5;
e. have touch tone dialing only.
2. If the auxiliary equipment does not adhere to the
guidelines and if its use should damage the
SYSTEM-85 in any manner, the University
reserves the right to recoup all charges and costs
for the replacement of damaged equipment related
to the SYSTEM-85.
