SecureCarolina

Security Awareness Training

As a means to raise the university population’s knowledge base of safe computing practices and awareness of cyber threats in today’s world, SecureCarolina has purchased SANS’ Securing the Human Awareness Training.

This service offers users a self-paced modular approach to learning from the comfort of their office workstation. Pilot tests for Securing the Human concluded in early 2014, and boasted wonderful results. The awareness training program is now in full production. It is meant to supplement, not replace specialized training in FERPA, HIPAA, PCI, and other areas of regulatory compliance.

If you are interested in having your business department or academic unit complete SANS' Securing the Human, please contact the UTS Service Desk via e-mail (servicedesk@sc.edu) or by phone (7-1800).

Training and Certification Guidelines

It is critical for IT staff to understand information security topics, technologies, and techniques in order to properly protect university IT assets and data. Ideally, all IT staff should have some amount of information security training.

It is expected that IT staff members who receive training will share their knowledge with peers, helping SecureCarolina.

To aid the university in achieving these guidelines, SecureCarolina has purchased a limited set of online computer-based security training courses for university System Administrators through SANS.

If you are interested in having a system administrator from your university business or academic unit complete this security training, please contact the UTS Service Desk via e-mail at servicedesk@sc.edu or by phone at 777-1800.
