The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) provides
information to adults, especially displaced or under-employed
workers, on opportunities for post-secondary education. EOC
site managers guide students in applying for Pell Grants and
other financial aid, and in minimizing their reliance on student
loans. The EOC is committed to servicing at least 2,000 Richland
County adults each year.
The EOC works in cooperation with other agencies and organizations
that serve poor and working class adults and families. It
has offices (donated space) in adult education centers and
the Richland County Department of Social Services. The EOC
staff also works closely with the City of Eastover, and community
agencies to provide a weekly schedule of on-site EOC services.
The EOC staff also works with the Columbia Housing Authority
and the Midlands Workforce Development Board to assist their
clients in gaining access to postsecondary educational opportunities.
