Excerpt from The Canterbury Tales Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales between 1387 and 1400, before the invention of the printing press. Written in Middle English, which is unusual, they have been passed down in several handwritten manuscripts. An inventive USC faculty member used technology to help his students understand the rhyme and meter of Middle English by providing them a recorded version of The Canterbury Tales.
