Instructions for Configuring Outlook 2003 Secure IMAP

For the following instructions, we will use a fictitious
person. Please substitute your own personal information when you
configure Outlook on your computer. Also note that your Outlook
2003 application must be fully updated with Service Pack 2.

Ned’s secure IMAP server at USC is:
imap.mail.sc.edu and uses port 993
Ned’s authenticated and secure SMTP server at USC
is: asmtp.mail.sc.edu and uses port 2525 |

On a profile where Outlook has never been
used, the startup wizard should initialize by default after
clicking on the Microsoft Outlook 2003 icon.

Select Next.

If the wizard does not initialize by
default, these settings can be accessed by browsing to
Start\Control Panel\User Accounts\Mail then clicking the
E-mail Accounts tab.

Select Yes and Next.

Select IMAP and Next.

Enter information for the Your Name
and E-mail Address fields.

Enter imap.mail.sc.edu for the
Incoming mail server (IMAP) field.

Enter asmtp.mail.sc.edu for the
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field.

Unselect Remember Password.

Select the More Settings tab.

Select the Outgoing Server tab.

Select My outgoing server (SMTP)
requires authentication.

Select the Advanced tab.

Select This server requires (SSL) for
Incoming server (IMAP) and set the port to 993.

Select This server requires (SSL) for
Outgoing server (SMTP) and set the port to 2525.

Select OK.
-
Select Next then Finish.

Enter your Username and Password
to begin using Outlook.
