USC Connect: Integrating Learning Within and Beyond the Classroom

USC Connect: Integrating Learning Within and Beyond the Classroom is a five-year initiative at USC Columbia and the Regional Campuses (Lancaster, Salkehatchie, Sumter, Union) to support all students in making the most of their education by integrating course work with first-hand learning experiences outside of class.

What do you want your equation to be? Our goal is for students to become lifelong learners by understanding how a vast array of experiences can help one gain perspective, build skills in collaboration and problem-solving, and inform decisions about careers, personal lives and interests, and contributions to communities (local, state, national and/or global!).

USC Connect began Fall 2011. Services are being gradually expanded throughout the next few years including

• Orientation and information for students regarding possibilities of beyond the classroom experiences at USC Columbia and the Regional Campuses
• Enhanced technology to help students, faculty, and staff find experiences and make connections
• Greater connections between academic course work and ‘real world’ experiences
• Greater opportunities for students to reflect on their experiences by comparing perspectives with others, applying what they learn in one setting to another, and creating innovative solutions

Note: USC Connect was developed as a project to enhance student learning at USC consistent with requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for a Quality Enhancement Plan.
