Caroline's Story

I had always wanted to visit Italy, so I chose Italian as my language of study and studied in Italy for 6 weeks this past summer to fulfill a major requirement. I spent 5 days on a Field Study of Southern Italy and 5 weeks studying in a town called Viterbo, which is a few hours from Rome. I took courses on the Italian Renaissance and the history of Italian opera, which included attending an opera performance in Rome.
My experience definitely helped increase my ability to speak and understand Italian! The town I lived in did not have many English speakers, so I really had to work hard! In coming semesters, I definitely want to take a Renaissance art history course to better understand the amazing paintings I viewed in Florence and Rome. I'm also interested in continuing my studies of Italian beyond what is required for my major.
My study abroad was truly an amazing experience!
