Davontae's Story
Davontae Singleton
English Major
All throughout high school I tried to be involved in “giving back”, but I was afforded many new opportunities when I came to USC. I was able to connect with students who were like me and had a passion for serving the community.
I started out as a mentor and tutor for the Waverly After-School Program and worked with students from elementary to high school in helping to strengthen their academic achievements, foster their curiosity, and serve as a mentor. From that program, I have learned that it doesn't take much of you to help someone else and in return the reward is twice as great.
I now serve as the Co-President and Director of the Waverly After-School Program and am looking forward to working this year with my students. I plan to continue on and hope to become a high school teacher when I graduate. “Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does,” that quote by William James is what inspires me to do what I do.
Be a leader, be a servant, and be a part of the solution.
