Header Navigation Bar
This element is built into the template to provide for additional navigation and menu items. This is an optional feature that should be used only as needed.
One way to use the Header Navigation Bar in combination with the Left Navigation Bar is to organize menu items as “information for” in the header nav and “information about” in the left nav. This is how many of the University’s man Web pages are organized.
Another approach to the header nav is to use it as a “breadcrumb trail” to let readers see a progression of layers as they go deeper into a site or to point them home. For example, this page leaves a breadcrumb trail back to the Visual Style Guide homepage and to the Web Presence Project homepage.
The background color of the header nav bar is set as very light gray (E5E5E5) in the template files in both the graphic and text-based versions. See the color section of this site for a list of colors that work well with the University’s garnet and black color scheme.
