WHAT IS THE UWC?
The University Women’s Club was founded in 1921 with the stated objectives
of furthering the educational aims of the University and of promoting
closer relationships between members and a warm and friendly atmosphere in
the University community. It was, and continues to be, primarily composed
of the wives of active and retired faculty and administrative officers,
although we have members who are themselves faculty or administrative
officers. Over the intervening decades, the organization has evolved in ways
that reflect the many changes in the lives of women associated with the
University and the decreasing role of social organizations in our culture.
Many faculty wives arrive at the University juggling children, careers,
and/or other commitments. In addition, many of us work or reside at a
significant distance from the campus itself. Nevertheless, we strive to
include all eligible women associated with the University–from athletics
to the professional schools–within the Club. We feel confident that each
member can find or create interests in common with other members and
receive personal benefit from the Club at any level of participation.
GENERAL PROGRAMS
The University Women’s Club (UWC) sponsors a variety of programs and
activities throughout the year:
WHO CAN JOIN THE UWC?
Membership is open to wives of faculty and administrative officers,
including retirees, and women who are current or retired faculty or
administrative officers. Members must pay annual dues to remain active.
Former members who are no longer eligible for regular membership may
become non-voting members with approval from the Executive Committee and
payment of dues. Our full by-laws may be obtained by contacting a member
of the Executive Committee.
