University Colors

Garnet and black are as Carolina as the Horseshoe, Cocky and Sir Big Spur.

Garnet and black are the official colors of the University of South Carolina. Our garnet (a dark red) and black combination is unique to Carolina and distinguishes us from other universities. Garnet is as Carolina as Cocky's gold beak and feet.

Garnet Ink on Paper

PMS 202 C is the official match to University of South Carolina garnet for offset printing applications on matte-, dull- or gloss-coated paper stocks. However, PMS 201 U should be used when printing on uncoated paper. Because ink absorbs into uncoated paper and often dries darker, PMS 201 on uncoated paper is a closer match to PMS 202 on coated stock.

The four-color process mix that corresponds to PMS 202 (coated paper) is: 0% cyan, 100% magenta, 61% yellow, and 43% black

The four-color process mix for PMS 201 (uncoated paper) is: 0% cyan, 100% magenta, 63% yellow, and 29% black

Garnet in Other Applications

For other applications such as clothing, silk screening or paint ask the vendor to match PMS 202 C garnet. Contact the Trademark and Licensing Office for specifics on thread color and fabric swatches and using licensed vendors.

Secondary Color Palette

Along with garnet and black, the brand identity includes a secondary color palette. These colors should not replace garnet and black as primary colors; they are only to be used as accent colors. See the secondary color palette.
