Jeff Stensland joined the Office of News and Internal Communications in 2012. He is a native of Illinois and moved to South Carolina in 1998. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Chicago’s Roosevelt University and master’s degree from the University of South Carolina's School of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Jeff worked for six years as a reporter for The State newspaper in Columbia. He covered business, higher education and state politics. He later served as director of communications for the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, which administers the state’s Medicaid program. He also has taught public relations and mass media writing at USC's School of Journalism and Mass Communications and co-founded a public relations and media consultancy firm.

He is married to an educator and has two children. In his free time he enjoys writing, reading, camping and disc golf.
