Charles T. "Bud" Ferillo Jr. is serving as part-time interim director of Strategic and Presidential Communications. He is also part-time director of the Initiative for South Carolina's Future, a grant to USC from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. A tenth-generation Charlestonian on his mother's side, he is a graduate of Bishop England High School and the College of Charleston.
He was named Distinguished Alumnus of the College of Charleston in November 2010. A Vietnam War veteran, Bud served as legislative assistant to the late S.C. Senator Isadore Lourie of Richland County (1973-1974); chief of staff to two speakers of the South Carolina House of Representatives (1973-1982); and deputy lieutenant governor of South Carolina (1982-1986).
In addition to his positions at USC, Bud heads his own public relations consulting firm, Ferillo and Associates Inc., founded in 1987. He produced and directed the documentary CORRIDOR OF SHAME: The Neglect of South Carolina's Rural Schools in 2005, which won six national awards in the field of documentaries. He is immediate past chairman of the S.C. Arts Commission and chairman of the S.C. Memorial Park Commission.
