Craig Brandhorst graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in English and art history. He also holds a masters in teaching degree in English from USC as well as a masters in fine arts in creative writing from Louisiana State University, where he edited the literary journal New Delta Review. He joined the Division of Communications as a contract writer in 2012.
Prior to coming to USC, Craig covered higher education and the local arts scene for the Columbia Free Times. He has previously worked as a freelance copyeditor, copywriter and journalist, and also as a teacher at both the secondary and post-secondary level.
In his spare time Craig writes fiction and narrative nonfiction. He also has traveled extensively, having spent several summers teaching conversation English to teenagers in Poland during the 1990s.
