Teaching Excellence Technology Loan Program:
Using an iPad2 to Enhance Teaching

The Apple iPad2 has a responsive multi-touch screen, two cameras, and is designed as an eReader with Web browsing, email, video viewing capabilities and more. We wonder how this technology can be used to enhance teaching, and seek faculty help in exploring the possibilities.
Full-time faculty who teach are invited to apply to this technology loan program by completing the attached proposal form. Please do not exceed the form limits. Proposals will be reviewed for potential impact on teaching. If the number of recommended proposals exceeds our inventory of iPad2s, successful applicants will be determined through a random drawing. Past CTE iPad Loan Program participants are not eligible, sorry.
Successful applicants will:
- Receive an iPad2 (16GB Wi-Fi) for use in the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters.
- Investigate the use of the iPad2 as a teaching tool in at least one course.
- Attend 5 participant meetings.
- Prepare a written report and contribute to an oral presentation through the CTE to discuss how the iPad2 was used to enhance teaching.
- Return the iPad2 to the CTE at the end of the Spring 2012 semester. However, recipients who complete all program requirements may apply to continue using the device.
Group meetings:
Participants will meet 5 times during the loan period to exchange ideas and address common challenges. Faculty will learn from each other what works and what doesn’t and will be encouraged to work together to define uses for iPad2 technology in and out of the the classroom.
