Creating Opportunities, Fulfilling Dreams

Some of the individuals most dedicated to the future of Carolina are members of the President’s Society.   Exclusive membership is given to alumni and friends who commit $1,801 -$24,999 annually, benefiting scholarships, academic

programs, faculty  recruitment and classroom enhancements.  Leadership giving at Carolina is crucial to the remarkable endeavors of our university and ensures that students of today and tomorrow are given every opportunity to succeed in the classroom. Each year we are privileged to have thousands of alumni and friends support our outstanding scholars, professors and initiatives with significant gifts. The University of South Carolina succeeds, in part, because of the continued generosity of President’s Society members.

Thank you for continuing to support all of Carolina’s achievements. With your assistance, USC is able to create opportunities and fulfill dreams, and each gift you make has a direct impact on at least one undergraduate or graduate student. Together we can advance the University of South Carolina into a level of national prominence unmatched by other institutions.

Carolina Circle

Creating Opportunities, Fulfilling Dreams

Some of the University of South Carolina’s most extraordinary donors are members of the newly founded Carolina Circle. Exclusive membership is given to alumni and friends who have made an annual gift to USC for three or more consecutive years since 2002. These generous Circle members are among our most loyal constituents and help to ensure that the students of today and tomorrow are given every opportunity to succeed both in and out of the classroom. We are privileged to have thousands of alumni and friends as members of this esteemed society who allow us to continue a circle of excellence at USC from year to year.

Donors are notified annually of their membership within the Carolina Circle and receive a trademark decal signifying them as one of the University of South Carolina’s most loyal friends.

G.O.L.D Society

The G.O.L.D. Society recognizes Graduates of the Last Decade who make a gift to the university.  This recognition society is unique because it is based on your participation rather than the size of your gift.  Each gift makes a direct impact on at least one student, and collectively we can help advance the University of South Carolina into one of the nation’s premiere institutions.

The Carolina Guardian Society honors donors of deferred gifts such as trusts, bequests, insurance policies and annuities.

Formerly known as the USC Legacy Club, membership in the society has increased for a current total of 564 individuals, including 29 anonymous members.  Members of the Carolina Guardian Society represent over $166 million in future gifts to the University and its affiliated foundations. To date, matured planned gifts represents over $14 million.

The name of the society was drawn from a speech by Thomas Cooper, the University's second president. In an 1823 commencement speech, Cooper said, "I pray you, become the guardians of this ... alma mater so ... that to have been a graduate of the South Carolina College, shall everywhere be considered as a fair passport to the world's esteem."

The society was inaugurated in 1998 on the 175th anniversary of Cooper's speech with Retired Army Major General T. Eston Marchant serving as its first chair. Chair Rita Bragg Cullum, Esquire is the current chair.
