'To make your college years the best, get involved with extracurricular activities'

Making the transition from USC Lancaster to USC Columbia was easier than Keisha Brace thought.

“I came down here and had an orientation session,” says Keisha, who started in Columbia in fall 2004 and graduates in spring 2007. “I also had a tour of campus through the Visitor Center. By doing those two things, it made the transition easier. The ambassadors answered all my questions throughout the tour."

She was so impressed with the University Ambassadors program that on her orientation day, she signed up to be one herself, and also joined the Carolina Student Alumni Association, the Gamecock Club, and Kappa Delta Epsilon, the elementary education fraternity.

In addition to her involvement with student organizations, Keisha has enjoyed attending football games and working out at the Wellness and Fitness Center.

Faculty and classes: She's also been pleased with her professors and her class size. “All the faculty have been really helpful,” says the elementary education major. “I've gotten to know them on a personal level, and it's been just wonderful.

“Not too many of my classes were too big. That was a good thing. Just meeting and getting to know people here, it's been fine.”

Keisha's final words of advice? “When you come here, get involved. USC has a lot to offer, and to make your college years the best, get involved with extracurricular activities. Try joining the University Ambassadors. It's a good group.”
