Class Absence Reflection (CAR) Group
The Class Absence Reflection (CAR) group is for students who are missing classes excessively due to a variety of reasons. Such reasons can include difficulties with time management, study skills, relationships, family responsibilities, and balancing social activities with academics. The goal of the group is for students to have the opportunity to “think out loud” about their specific circumstances, academic goals, priorities, and habits. Students will explore the issues that are blocking the path toward success at the University of South Carolina and will come up with strategies to improve their performance.
In most cases, a student is referred to the CAR group by a professor after the student has missed a certain number of classes. Some professors may provide an incentive for students to attend the CAR group. Also, some professors ask that the student write a reflection paper about the student’s experience in the group. Students may also voluntarily attend the CAR group without a referral.
Information shared in the CAR group will be confidential. Please call the Counseling & Human Development Center for the dates and times of the CAR groups at 803-777-5223 or email Dr. Jan Ziegler at zieglerj@sc.edu. |

Out of State Student Mixers
You've waited through four years of high school to get to college. You looked forward to getting out of the house and finally being on your own. Meeting new friends, living in a new place and learning new things sounded so exciting, until you got here. Like Dorothy, you found out quickly "there's no place like home." The purpose of the mixer is to give out of state students the opportunity to socialize and interact with other students who have experienced the same type of transition as they have. Please log onto the student success center website http://www.sa.sc.edu/ssc/index.htm for dates, information and locations.

This ten-session, ongoing group will support these students in their quest for a healthier lifestyle.
