The Travel/Research Fund for Studies in the History of Natural History was founded to strengthen the study of natural history at the University of South Carolina and to foster understanding and awareness of the natural history collections in the University's libraries as a major research resource in the history of natural history. Awards from the Fund may be made to USC faculty and students to assist in conducting relevant research at other institutions and to researchers from elsewhere, especially from other South Carolina colleges and universities, to conduct relevant research at the University of South Carolina.
Applicants for the Travel/Research Fund in the History of Natural History should submit a brief description of their project and specific funding request to the Director of Special Collections (address below). First consideration from each year's funds will be given to applications received before January 31. Expenses for which support may be requested include transportation, meals, and lodging at a comparable rate to the state of South Carolina's approved per diem. At the conclusion of the research period, grantees will be required to: submit a report on their research to the Director of Special Collections, acknowledge the assistance of the grant in any subsequent publication(s) resulting from the research, and submit a copy of the report and any resulting publications for deposit in the University Libraries Special Collections.
