Endnote 8
What is Endnote?
Endnote is a bibliographic referencing tool that enables you
to:
-
Create and
maintain a personal searchable database of references
-
Format
citations and bibliographies in a variety of styles
-
"Cite while you
write" in word processing documents
-
Compile and
organize your research information
How
do I access Endnote?
The University Libraries does not
provide access to the Endnote program. However, Endnote Web is available in Web of Knowledge databases (Arts & Humanities Citation
Index, Science Citation Index and Social Science Citation Index). You can also purchase this program
from many retailers including the Endnote website .
Is it possible to
search the Library's Catalog with Endnote?
Yes, it is possible
to search the USC Library Catalog with the Endnote program, but first
you will need to update the connection file in your Endnote program.
Follow these steps to update your connection file:
1.
Right click on the
following link:
U of South Carolina.enz. This will be your new
connection file.
2. Select Save Target As...
3. Save the file in your
Endnote Connections Directory. This is often
c:\program
files\endnote\connections\ but will vary depending on where you
installed your copy
of Endnote.
4. Select Yes when asked if
you would like to overwrite the existing file.
5. If you were running
Endnote when you saved the file, exit and restart the program.
After following the
above steps you will now be able to search the USC Library Catalog through
the Endnote program.
Can
I search the Library’s electronic databases/indexes with Endnote?
Current versions of the
Endnote software do not support proxy server technologies; therefore,
you will not be able to search the Library’s databases/indexes by using
Endnote. Instead of searching these resources by using Endnote, we
suggest that you search them directly and then import the desired
results into your Endnote library. Searching these products
directly has the added benefit of using the enhanced search capabilities
found within them. Importing citations into Endnote varies
depending on the resource being used. Instructions for importing
citations into your Endnote library can be found here.
