Requests |
Located in northeast Columbia, the Library Annex houses
infrequently used materials and materials needing special care.
The library catalog indicates what is in the Annex and links to online
request forms for books and articles. Journal articles can be
scanned and delivered electronically. Other items are delivered
to a circulation desk, twice daily, Monday - Friday. |

| Book
Check Out |
All USC faculty and staff with valid
University IDs have borrowing privileges.
The normal loan period for faculty is one
semester and 6 weeks for staff. Loan periods for select materials
may vary. Periodicals may be checked out by faculty and staff for
three days. Reference materials do not circulate.
Note: There is no
checkout limit for faculty or staff. For additional information,
please contact the Thomas Cooper Library Circulation Department at
(803) 777-3145.

Drops |
Library
materials may be returned at the following locations (click for a map

Health Center: Drive-up book drop between Thomson Health Center
(111) and Bull Street Garage(117) at Devine and Bull.
Gambrell
Hall: Lobby book drop box.
Swearingen
Engineering Center: Lobby book drop box.
Thomas
Cooper Library: East wall book drop slot (Russell House side).

Purchase Requests for the Library |
Book purchase requests may be submitted by
your department’s library representative. If you do not know who
your library representative is, please see the Collection
Management page.
ERequest is
an online order system for submitting your book requests. Initial
registration is required to set up an account. Fill in information
about your book request and submit the form. Your request is
automatically sent to your department's representative and then to the
library.
If you are a department's representative you
will need to access the system from the "Secure Staff Access" portion
of the
ERequest system. From here you can monitor requests sent by your
department faculty members or submit your own requests to the library.

| Book
Recall |
All
library materials are recallable. When a book is recalled, it is
due two weeks from the date of recall, unless the original due
date is earlier. When the requested item is returned, the
Circulation Department will notify the requestor and place the item on
hold for ten days. Contact the Circulation Department for recall
options at (803) 777-3145. |
| Book
Renewal |
Most library materials are
renewable. To renew in person, bring the item to the Circulation
Department with a valid USC ID card. Faculty may also renew books
by calling (803) 777-3145, sending back the end-of-semester list of
charged books to Circulation, or sending an e-mail message to ecirc@gwm.sc.edu.
Interlibrary Loan
materials can be renewed via the ILL web program. The Interlibrary Loan
Department will confirm the renewal date.

Center for Adaptive Technology |
The Center for Adaptive
Technology, located in the Computer Lab on
Level 5 of Thomas Cooper Library has been designed to accommodate the
information technology needs of patrons with disabilities.
Services available include consultation and training, software loan
program, scanning, Braille transcription, and technical support.
Assistance with photocopying is available through the Circulation
Department. |

Lab & Laptop Computers |
A Computer Lab is
available for all current USC faculty and staff. The Lab is
located on Level 5 of Thomas Cooper Library. Laptop computers
may be checked out for in building use. A CarolinaCard is
required for printing from all public workstations. Printouts
cost $.10 per page. |
Delivery
Services |
The Scan and Deliver
service supplies articles from the Thomas Cooper Library
stacks directly to your desktop if the article isn't otherwise
available electronically. Request a "Scan and Deliver Article" through
ILL Express!, your interlibrary loan account.
Columbia campus faculty can request
books and journal volumes from the Thomas Cooper Library, Business
Library, Math Library, and Library Annex be delivered to
campus offices.
Ingenta Connect
Complete: A pay-per-view institutional account allows
current, permanent, full-time Columbia campus faculty to request
articles delivered directly to the desktop. Sign-in and
registration is required to make use of the University Libraries
account.

Departmental
photocopying accounts may be used to make copies within Thomas Cooper
Library. To setup an account, contact Chad Price, Circulation

Educational Film Collection |
A wide variety of documentaries, training
films, biographies, and feature films are available to USC faculty,
staff and students.
Viewing equipment is
available at Thomas Cooper Library for faculty, staff, and students who
wish to view or preview films from the Educational Film
Collection. |
Electronic
Reserves |
If you would
like for us to scan library materials for you and address copyright
concerns connected to posting these materials, please submit the
E-Reserves Form. Guidelines and the form available from the Reserves
Department. |

Interlibrary Loan |
Requests to borrow
materials from other libraries worldwide should be made via the Interlibrary Loan form
on the web. Need a quick turnaround time? Just check off the Faculty
Express button on the ILL form. |

Faculty and staff may
check out journals for 3 days. Please bring the journal to the
Circulation Desk for check-out. |

Instruction for Classes |
Librarians can meet with
your class to discuss information resources and research techniques
specific to your class projects. Librarians can also work with you on
creating effective assignments or developing resource guides. You'll
find a list of contacts on the Instruction and

Selectors |
Many Librarians serve as Library selectors
for specific subject areas. They make decisions about choosing
materials for the library and work closely with the faculty to develop
a comprehensive collection. If you do not know your library selector or

Collection Management and
subject librarians work with the colleges/schools/departments in
preparing official documentation for new program requests or for
reaccredidation of current programs. |

Microforms/Newspapers |
The Government
Documents Department houses more than three million items.
The collection includes newspapers,
periodicals, and other collections of historical importance in many
fields of study. Check the
library catalog for availability. |

Multimedia Classroom |
The Thomas Cooper Library
has two Multimedia Classrooms. Each classroom contains 30 workstations
and a state of the art multimedia projection system. These
classrooms can be reserved for classes, workshops, meetings or
conferences. The Library provides on site training prior to classroom
use and assistance during the use of the facility. For more

The New Books Database
organizes the latest additions to the University Library holdings and
allows patrons to quickly search and browse books recently added to the
library catalog. The database can be searched by keyword or be browsed
by the month. |
| Newsfilm
Library |
The Newsfilm Library
preserves the unique Twentieth Century Fox
Movietone News Collection. It also contains other South
Carolina collections and home movies, making these collections
available to researchers in the University community and throughout the
world. |
Paging
Materials from Thomas Cooper Library |
A 'page' is a request for
library staff to get a book or journal from the Thomas Cooper Library's
main shelves (including Government Information and Microforms items)
and have the item held for you at a USC Library circulation desk

Photoduplication Services |
All libraries provide
self-service photocopy machines. The Thomas Cooper Library offers
mediated copying of library materials, faxing services and production
of overhead transparencies at the Circulation Desk on the Main
Level.
The Government
Document/Microforms Department has copying resources for microform
materials.
The South Caroliniana
Library offers duplicating and digitizing services for the books,
manuscripts, photographs, and other media found in its collections. |
| Proxy
Cards |
Proxy Cards for Graduate
Assistants allow a graduate assistant to check out library materials
for you and may be obtained from the Circulation Department, Thomas
Cooper Library, by e-mail request, or via the online form.

Circulation Department for more details. Please be advised
that proxy cards do not extend to interlibrary loan materials.
Authorized users must be added to your interlibrary loan account. |
| Reserves |
The Reserves Department
makes books, articles, class notes and other course materials, videos,
and personal copies available to your students either in the library or
electronically. You can place videos
from the Film Library on reserve for a class. Please contact the
Reserves Department for more information. |

Carrels |
Private study
carrels are available to faculty and staff. Please inquire at the
Circulation Desk, Thomas Cooper Library for more information. |
| Tours |
Faculty may request tours
and classroom instruction for their classes. You'll find a list of

| Wireless
Access |
The wireless network
provides un-tethered access to the Internet throughout Thomas Cooper
Library for current USC faculty and staff. For instructions on
