The Newsfilm Library is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM
to 5 PM. The general public as well as students, faculty and staff are
invited to come to our 707 Catawba Street facility to view material free of charge.
Onsite access is provided through our videotape library.
This library consists of over 2,000 hours of material transferred from our film
collections. Patrons are encouraged to search our online catalog prior to
coming to the library to ensure the desired material is available on video (any
materials referenced with an “RC” or “VC” are available for viewing).
The library will try its best to accommodate requests for
material not yet transferred to tape but technical and legal constraints may
restrict access to certain elements of the collection.
Scholars wishing to consult the library for an extended
period of time should contact the library’s Director (803-777-5556) to make
arrangements for suitable facilities.
Offsite access to the collection is available for a fee.
Patrons wishing to have a time-coded screening cassette (VHS) customized to
their needs and mailed to their home should contact the Newsfilm Production
Manager (803-777-6211) to make arrangements.
The fee for customized tapes is
$50 for the first story plus $20 for each additional story requested.
