Book Delivery Service (USC-Columbia Faculty)
If you
are USC-Columbia Faculty and there is a book
we own that you want to check out without coming to the library, we will get the
book and deliver it to your department on the USC-Columbia Campus.If you
don't need the book delivered to you and will come to the library to pick it up,
please use our Paging
Service.
- What
is this service?
Library staff will retrieve items from the stacks
at the Thomas
Cooper Library, Business Library, Math Library, and USC Library Annex, check
them out to your faculty library account, and have them delivered to your
department (wherever your campus mail is normally received) on the USC-Columbia
campus.
- Who can
use this service?
Any USC-Columbia faculty
member whose library account is in good standing (no overdue recalls, fines,
etc.). You must be designated as faculty by USC Human Resources.
- What
items can I request?
You can place a Book
Delivery request on any Thomas Cooper Library, Business Library, Math
Library, or USC Library Annex book that you are allowed to check out. Sorry,
we cannot deliver Reference items, Special Collections items, Reserve items
and/or other non-circulating items. Films should be requested through the
Educational Film Library. If you need a
book or journal volume that belongs to the Library Annex, we
can request it for you and deliver it to you. If you need an article from a
journal we own that is NOT at the Library Annex, please request it through
Scan and Deliver. If you need a journal
article that belongs to the Library Annex, you may request it from the
Annex. Electronic
delivery of articles is available from the Annex.
- What if
the item is checked out?
Checked out items
will be recalled for you. The item will be sent to you once it is available.
- How
many items can I request at one time?
You may request any number of items, but please be aware that requests with
large numbers of items may require more time for processing and delivery.
- When,
and how, can I place a Book Delivery request?
You can place an online request
at any
time from the catalog by using our new Request button located in the top
portion of the item's page (click
here for more info). If your request is urgent, you may call the Circulation Department at
803-777-3145 when it is
open.
- What
happens when my request is submitted?
By the next business day, Circulation staff will search for the requested
item, but processing and packaging are then required. We will make every effort to process your request as
quickly as possible, however delivery dates cannot be predicted, especially
when material is not on the shelf.
For the purposes of this service, business days are defined as Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.
- How
will you notify me when my items are ready?
You will receive an email at your USC email address when your items have
been processed by Circulation.
- What
happens if there is a problem with my request?
If you called us with your request, we will call you back if there is a
problem. If you made your request from the online catalog, we will send you an
email at your USC email address.
