Cash Advances
Cash Advances are often necessary in extenuating circumstances where
a vendor requires cash or the regular university procurement procedures
are not a reasonable or effective method. These advances require you to
follow established guidelines to administer these funds. This session
will be led by Dena Dalton, who serves as the Fiscal Technician for the
University of South Carolina in the Office of Contract & Grant
Accounting.

Foundation Funding
Foundation Funding may sometimes be easier to request, as they have
continuous deadlines, prefer concept papers to full proposals and have
more informal guidelines. However, receiving foundation funding can be
challenging as foundations are much more competitive than federal
sponsors and many foundations require universities to cultivate a
relationship to compete in this environment. This session will be led by
Wendi Nance, who serves as the Director of Development, Foundations and
Corporations.

Intellectual Property
This seminar is designed to teach participants what Intellectual
Property is and how it is created in the University setting.
Participants will gain insights into invention identification and
protecting intellectual property and how this is accomplished within
Federal and Privately sponsored research guidelines. Participants will
learn about the process of transferring technology out of the University
and will see success stories of University technologies that have moved
out of the lab and into the marketplace. Most importantly, participants
will see how this process of commercialization at the University is
designed to reinvest in the faculty, their department, their college,
and the University. This session will be led by Chad Hardaway, who
serves as the Senior Licensing Associate in the Intellectual Property
Office.
