South Carolina Assistive Technology Online Network

The South Carolina Assistive Technology Program has established an informal, information-sharing network for people interested in information about resources and and advocacy issues. A new feature of this network allows members to ask questions of the network and recieve replies individually from service providers and consumers throughout the state. To subscribe to this network simply email Janet Jendron at jjendron@usit.net with your email address and if you like, some information about yourself and your interest in assistive technology.

Comments Heard about our AT Network

You have no idea how significant it is, that you sent this article to the AT Network at the exact moment that I am working on a proposal about creating a lending library of AT/technology for students in 4 rural communities. This is exactly why I am a member of this AT listservs! Thanks for the info!

Recent questions posed to the AT Online Network:

  • Are there any sources for manual wheelchair donations?
  • I need information about Speech-to-text packages such as Dragon Dictate or Naturally Speaking. What are people using who need to have voice input to their computers? Is there anyone else that I can consult with that needs voice input and speech output? If so, what packages are they using? Which ones work well together?
  • I'm interested in finding other parents whose children successfully use AT in the schools, particularly the AlphaTalker.
  • Does anyone have advice on selecting cell phones for people in wheelchairs?
  • Do you have any recommendations for parent who is looking for software for a child with visual perception/processing problems?

We recently had a great question about adapted art activities, which generated a summary of responses seen at Adapted Art Activities.
