Achieving Wheelchair Equality
Founded in 1991 to help wheelchair users and others with mobility problems overcome the unique obstacles they face with employment, community, family, and recreation. Sponsor of several lowcountry athletes in sports such as wheelchair racing and weightlifting, the North Charleston Hurricanes, a local Wheelchair Basketball team. We added "Lowcountry Wheelchair Sports" to our name to reflect the demand and emphasis for recreational activities for those with disabilities.
Adaptive Expeditions is Charleston’s Paralympic Sports Club. We are an interactive educational nonprofit using sport and recreation to offer health and wellness programs to individuals with physical and sensory disabilities. Through recreation adventures, Adaptive Expeditions empowers individuals with both technical skills and personal confidence to maintain active, independent lifestyles.
The Carolina Crash is a wheelchair/quad rugby team for men and women and is the only Western NC team serving players from both North and South Carolina. It is one of only two programs in the state. The Crash is a 100% volunteer run 501 (C) (3) organization and a member of the United States Quad Rugby Association.

Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding, Inc.
CATR staff and volunteers are dedicated to helping students find joy and accomplishment through riding. Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding, Inc. (CATR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving individuals with a variety of disabilities and conditions since 1991. With the assistance of certified instructors, physical therapists, doctors, psychologists, special education teachers, and a well-trained volunteer corps, they now serve over 130 children and adults per year.

Dream Riders is a non-profit 501-C-3 corporation providing a unique approach to physical, emotional, and recreational therapeutic fun for both children and adults with special needs, presently serving people with mental and/or physical disabilities. Each rider is reviewed before acceptance into Dream Riders equestrian program for medical releases and our program’s ability to provide a safe equestrian experience for the rider.

HALTER is an affordable Therapeutic Horseback Riding program that has served handicapped residents of Spartanburg (and surrounding counties) and students at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind since 1987. The Saturday morning (five-week) sessions generally run from early Spring through late Fall each year.

Heroes On Horseback
Heroes on Horseback is a nonprofit organization that uses the horse to provide therapeutic benefits for individuals with physical, mental or emotional disabilities. Heroes On Horseback serves individual with disabilities in the coastal South Carolina area of the Lowcountry with two sites of operation.
