About

We're dedicated to increasing cross-cultural understanding on campus, in South Carolina and around the world.

Minor Degree Programs

Students may choose from one of the our six World Regions minor degree programs in African Studies, Asian Studies, European Studies, Islamic World Studies, Latin American Studies, and Russian & Eurasian Studies.

Colloquia

We sponsor colloquia in order to help faculty members, graduate students, and the general public keep abreast of intellectual developments within academic disciplines concerned with international studies. Affording scholars the opportunity to present their current research and inviting public officials from the U.S. and other countries to offer their insights, our colloquia provides a forum for critical review and discussion.

Academic Conferences

We promote the exchange of ideas and the examination of new contributions to knowledge through its academic conferences. In addition to hosting our own conferences, we sponsor and provides financial and administrative support to a number of other academic convocations.

Faculty Associates Program

University faculty whose research or teaching interests include international and cross-cultural issues are encouraged to apply for Faculty Associate status. USC system faculty and faculty at other academic institutions within a 100-mile radius of USC-Columbia are eligible for Faculty Associate status. Appointments are for a two-year initial period and are renewable.

Palmetto Forum

The Palmetto Forum is a world affairs luncheon seminar designed to stimulate the discussion of international issues within the Columbia, SC professional and USC student community. The Palmetto Forum meets monthly during the academic year at Columbia's Palmetto Club. The forum's membership has expanded to over 300 subscribers, among them some of Columbia's most prominent citizens.
